"The best friends you didn't know you needed, chasing meaning, love, and aliens on a Florida beach."

-Jessie Hobson

Cinedump

Three long-time friends reunite for a beach weekend to escape their mundane lives, only to spiral into bizarre encounters - from mistaken identity and extraterrestrial abduction to shady lovers on the run - that force each of them to confront who they really are. As reality fractures and introspection deepens, they stumble through existential absurdity in search of meaning, connection, and maybe a decent souvenir t-shirt. Jellyfish Season is a surreal comedy about midlife crisis, identity, and the strangely divine nature of being human.

The filmmakers behind Jellyfish Season are long-time collaborators Dylan Melcher, Kristofer Atkinson, Matthew Walker, and Zachery Howard, who came together to celebrate the beauty of independent, low-budget filmmaking through resourcefulness, collaboration, and hands-on craft.

Jellyfish Season marks Dylan Melcher’s directorial debut and was intentionally shot on 16mm film, embracing the texture, imperfection, and emotional weight that analog capture brings to the storytelling. The choice reflects the team’s commitment to craft and to creating a cinematic experience that feels lived-in rather than polished.

The production was further shaped by the collaboration with established production designer Taylor Prater, whose visual world-building grounded the film’s surreal elements in authenticity, and producer Destiny Greer, whose leadership and creative stewardship helped guide the project from concept through completion.

The project was made possible through the unwavering support of our executive producers Troy Dunn, Inna Dunn, Marsha Droste, and Ed Droste, whose belief in the film from its earliest stages gave us the confidence and momentum to move forward. Their encouragement, trust, and commitment provided the foundation that allowed the creative team to take creative risks, stay true to the story, and bring the film to life.

The original score for Jellyfish Season features jazz compositions written and performed by renowned jazz artist Chance Reynolds. Rooted in improvisation and warmth, the music brings an organic emotional texture to the film, reinforcing its intimacy and sense of discovery.

In addition to the film release, the team plans to press and release an original soundtrack on vinyl, extending the project beyond the screen and celebrating the analog spirit that defines the film’s creative approach.
